Job Purpose:

The MEP Manager will lead and manage the MEP engineering activities across multiple projects, ensuring that all designs comply with industry standards, regulations, client requirements, and the firm’s quality benchmarks.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the MEP design and supervision team, setting clear goals and providing regular performance feedback.
  • Foster a positive and proactive work environment, supporting the professional growth of team members through training and mentoring initiatives.
  • Keep the Project Manager regularly informed of progress and any significant developments that may impact project outcomes.
  • Strategic oversight of MEP Site Supervision team and activities in coordination with the supervision department head.

Technical Duties

  • Lead the preparation and coordination of MEP design drawings and documentation, ensuring their timely readiness for submission in line with project schedules.
  • Manage and oversee the work of Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, ensuring all deliverables align with project objectives.
  • Define and enforce the MEP quality control system, approving all documents issued by the MEP section in coordination with Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
  • Oversee the review process of MEP submissions, ensuring all submissions are reviewed efficiently and on time to meet project milestones.
  • Provide technical guidance and executive-level support to resolve complex construction challenges, ensuring best practices and innovative solutions are applied.
  • Ensure design coordination among disciplines, preventing clashes and guaranteeing integrated systems for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing designs.
  • Facilitate workshops and coordination meetings with consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolution of technical issues.

 Project Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project managers and lead engineers/architects to develop and implement design strategies for projects.
  • Foster collaboration with other section managers to ensure seamless integration of designs, promoting overall project efficiency.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination meetings to address technical challenges and engage in cross-functional teamwork, enhancing productivity and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants to ensure effective collaboration and integration of their contributions.
  • Collaborate with design and supervision project managers to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Resource Management

  • Allocate and manage section resources efficiently, aligning activities with project demands, timelines, and estimated working hours, while adhering to priorities set by the Design and Supervision Department Heads.
  • Optimize resource allocation for integrated project delivery, emphasizing quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Supervise and mentor the overseas MEP design team.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, matching team capabilities with project requirements.
  • Identify staffing needs based on performance evaluations and participate in recruitment and termination procedures as necessary.
  • Manage and integrate freelancers into the project, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Review and provide feedback on resource plans for the MEP team, making strategic adjustments as needed to maintain project timelines in coordination with Design Department Head, Supervision Department Head and PMs.

Quality Management

  • Define, implement, and monitor quality assurance and quality control measures to ensure MEP designs meet industry standards, company benchmarks, and client specifications.
  • Conduct regular design reviews to assess compliance with established design principles, project requirements, and building codes.
  • Maintain comprehensive design documentation and ensure accurate and organized project files.
  • Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects to continuously improve quality.
  • Guide the section team to ensure compliance with relevant building codes and standards.
  • Oversee the MEP site supervision team, ensuring alignment with project objectives and that all on-site activities adhere to design, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures for on-site MEP installations, ensuring all work complies with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Cost and Sustainability

  • Collaborate with project managers to effectively manage budgets, providing insights into cost considerations.
  • Champion the integration of sustainable design principles into projects, ensuring alignment with environmental standards and client sustainability goals.

Client Interaction and External Collaboration

  • Work closely with project managers to address client concerns and ensure client satisfaction with outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed design project reports as required

Interdepartmental Collaboration

  • Support Strategy, Marketing, Business Development, and Bidding operations to identify and pursue new opportunities as needed.
  • Collaborate with all departments, including design, supervision, and procurement, to ensure seamless project execution.

 Innovation and Development:

  • Stay up to date with technological advancements, industry trends, and regulatory changes, integrating innovative solutions into projects.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team by applying the latest technologies and tools in MEP disciplines.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions within the department, encouraging the exchange of best practices and lessons learned.
  • Regularly inform the Project Manager of project proceedings and developments.
  • Defining and applying quality control system, approving all documents issued by MEP Section in coordination with Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed MEP drawings and documentation, ensuring timely acquisition of permits and readiness for tender in accordance with approved project timelines.
  • Oversee the review of the MEP site submissions, ensuring timely review in accordance with project timeline’s requirements.
  • Regularly update the Project Manager on project progress and any significant developments.
  • Provide executive-level technical support and oversight on complex construction challenges, guiding the team on best practices and innovative solutions.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in the mechanical engineering discipline.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the UAE.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a consultancy company.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in MEP Management.
  • Strong Knowledge in design and supervision management and expertise in project management processes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of MEP systems, design processes, and project phases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage internal teams, stakeholders, and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Review Inspectors’ Daily Reports.
  • Provide general oversight of Inspectors’ daily activities, including work assignments, on-site performance, and guidance in supervising contractor operations.
  • Review and provide comments or approval on the contractor’s shop drawings as delegated by the resident engineer.
  • Assist the resident engineer in reviewing and approving the contractor’s technical submittals, such as method statements, materials, and shop drawings, as directed.

Civil 3D Draftsman

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 2D drawings / 3D surfaces for civil engineering projects, including infrastructure using Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Prepare general layout plans, cross-sections, profiles, and other technical drawings, based on the output of the designs and surfaces as well as cut/fill calculations prepared by the quantity surveyor in Civil 3D software.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with the required standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and the quantity surveyor to interpret project requirements and translate them into accurate technical drawings.
  • Revise drawings as needed based on feedback and project adjustments.

Responsibilities:

  • Study and implement the approved health and safety plan in the project and ensure that safety evaluation procedures and risk assessment methods are all in line with legal guidelines of OSHAD System Framework of Abu Dhabi.
  • Adhere to and implement ALSuweidi internal HSE Management System requirements and procedures and ensure that ALSuweidi site staffs are complaint with the same.
  • Participate in the preparation of ALSuweidi HSE Plan for the project as may be requested by Line Manager.
  • Participate in the review and approval of Contractor’s HSE Plan and ensure regular updates of the same are submitted when necessary.
  • Monitor the compliance of Contractor staffs with the safety standards and procedures applicable under the approved HSE Plan and under the HSE legislations/best practices; and take proper action against any observed safety violations or issues in coordination with Line Manager.
  • Monitor and ensure that the Contractor conducts regular safety training for his staffs on site.
  • Carry out daily site HSE inspection tours with Contractor’s HSE officers and report all findings.
  • Follow up with the Contractor in coordination with Line Manager on outstanding HSE issues including pending corrective actions and ensure prompt closure with adequate evidence of compliance.
  • Participate in the review and approval of Contractor’s risk assessment reports, work method statements, required work permits, etc.
  • Participate in injury and incident investigations, preparation of related reports and closure of open cases in coordination with Line Manager.
  • Attend safety meetings with the Contractor and other parties as necessary to discuss outstanding corrective actions and critical safety matters.
  • Participate in the preparation of HSE registers, e.g. training, induction, safety notifications, inspection reports, accidents/Incidents, etc.
  • Report any accident on site immediately to Line Manager and record all hazardous and unsafe situations or conditions in the project.
  • Adhere to Employer’s safety team requirements, and participate in the preparation of required weekly and/or monthly safety reports under the Contract.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar HSE role, preferably in the construction or engineering sectors.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification is required.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE HSE regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees at all levels.
  • Proficient in HSE reporting tools and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Contract Management:
    • Provide contract expertise and guidance on Project level and Organizational level.
    • Pre-award support in specific contract responsibilities (review RFPs, assist in negotiations, provide advice on risk) and oversee the contract execution process.
    • Support the post-award contract management activities such as Variations, Contract Amendments, and Guarantees.
    • Review, validate or otherwise reply to change requests and/or claims.
    • Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to align project goals and objectives with the Contract particulars and fees.
    • Manage and ensure proper communication (both internally and externally) in matters related to scope of works and consultant obligations and rights.
